Lung cancer patients get support from family and medical team

Welcome to Lung Cancer Insight

Information on lung cancer is what we have here - this web site is for people diagnosed with lung cancer, their family and friends.

We will provide the answers to your questions and speak to you honestly about your illness. You need someone to speak clearly and honestly about your illness and care about how to get your better. You want information on lung cancer and we will provide it-in language we all use, written by medical science experts.

We do that.

The buttons to the left link to specific topics right away. We'll also give you a guided tour in the next few paragraphs. We'll cover the following subjects:

  • Treatment Options
    • What's out there
    • how well does it work
    • is it right for you

There is no "one size fits all cure" for lung cancer. You need to be informed about what can be done and how it's done.

  • Symptoms:
    • What's the first sign of lung cancer?
    • How does it progress?
    • What makes it so difficult to treat?
    • Is there anything that can be done to diagnose it earlier?

  • Research: You will want to know what new medical science is out there to help you:
    • in the causes of lung cancer
    • in the treatments
    • is there an eventual cure?

As with most forms of cancer, knowledge is power.

  • Support: There's more to this web site than just dry recitations of facts. Cancer is a human disease, and reading the testimonials of people who've fought the cancer you have and come out the other end are inspiring. We can put you in touch with local cancer support groups so that you don't have to face this alone. There are people you can talk to about this with a common frame of reference.
  • Prevention: If you think you're at risk for lung cancer, you need knowledge of how to prevent it. Not everyone who reads this page is a cancer patient; some people are the family members of cancer patients, or have a genetic predisposition.

Knowing what causes lung cancer can help you make choices to reduce your risk.

Winston Churchill said, "When you're going through hell, keep going."

We're here because we've gone through this. With our family members, our neighbors and our friends. We know that everyone can use some help with this condition and we're ready to share our experiences and our stories with you.

We'll talk honestly about the odds of recovery, and explain the technical terms without talking to you in High Martian or "Doctor Terms".

You probably have some questions:

  • like what caused your cancer
  • and how long you'll live with this diagnosis.
  • How does cancer get 'cured'?
  • What are your odds?

We'll recommend books to read, and remind you that it's not the dog in the fight that matters; it's the fight in the dog that wins out. Same thing applies to cancer patients. Time and time again, it's been shown that a positive mental outlook skews the odds in your favor, whether it's from prayer, meditation or just sheer guts and determination.

This site is still being filled in; not everything's in place yet - so there will be topics added to this page, and others, throughout. Please make a regular habit of checking back in, and if you have any questions, please contact us. Use the form below if you have any questions that haven't been answered. We're working on getting a chat room set up so that you can talk to other people in the same boat. Winston Churchill said, "When you're going through hell, keep going."s

Here is just a sample of the topics and items we will add in the next month.

Have you thought about:

  • What do I tell my spouse and kids?
  • What do I tell my boss and what do I not tell my boss?
  • What do I ask about my medical insurance?
  • And how can I get my insurance to work better for me?

Some people worry about:

  • How to get a second medical opinion
  • What do all these technical words mean?
  • Are the doctors and nurses talking about me behind my back?
  • Why won't my doctor look me in the eye?

Some people want to:

  • See pictures of tumors and biopsies
  • Learn what to do when they have pain
  • And most of all, you probably want to learn how to get well fast.

This is your life; don't waste it by dithering. We'd like you to stick around and contribute your cancer survivor story to our archives.

We are here for you
Together we can beat your illness

"This website is for all lung cancer patients, their families and friends. I want people to know that they can overcome this disease by learning what to do, where to go for great medical help, how to deal with insurance and all the other problems facing them.

I have worked with some great people to make this web site easy to understand and devoted to helping you. Please let me know if anything doesn't help you or if we can do something more that would be useful to you.

The most important factor in a person getting healthy is their personal determination and their will to be better. You have to summon that determination and then take the steps described here - we are here to help and support you."
